چکیده

5.1 INTRODUCTION Organisms detected by the heterotrophic plate count (HPC) are ubiquitous in drinking-water. In order to assess the basis of confidence in existing measurements, particularly of the HPC, we have to reexamine the current role of potential waterborne bacteria in human disease. In this chapter, we therefore consider the following groups of bacteria of concern: • commensal bacteria; • recognized pathogens; • emerging bacteria; and • bioterrorist threat agents. The key factor in assessing the utility of the HPC will be whether it will provide a trigger for the successful investigation for these agents.

Docking and Biological Screening of Bezo[A]phenothiazinones as Novel Inhibitors of Bacterial Peptidogloycan Transpeptidase

Rising cases of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a public health concern. Many approved antibiotics target penicillin-binding proteins example peptidoglycan transpeptidase (PTPase). Due to wide pharmacological activity of phenothiazines, new styryl, aryl, alkynyl, and thiophenyl benzo[a]phenothiazines were synthesized and their inhibitory potency against PTPasein silico and Gram-po...

Prevalence of integron classes in Gram-negative clinical isolated bacteria in Iran: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective(s): Integrons, as a potential element in the distribution and maintenance of drug resistance, have thoroughly been established. It is known that the high prevalence of integrons in multidrug-resistant (MDR) clinical isolates has become a serious public health concern. The objective of the present study was to determine the frequency of different classes of integrons in clinical isolat...

Carbapenemase-producing bacteria in companion animals: a public health concern on the horizon.

Clinical infections attributed to carbapenemase-producing bacteria are a pressing public health concern owing to limited therapeutic options and linked antimicrobial resistance. In recent years, studies have reported the emergence and spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae and their public health impact. This has been closely followed by the global dissemination of highly resistan...

Prevalence of enteropathogenic bacteria in treated effluents and receiving water bodies and their potential health risks.

The failure of wastewater treatment plants to produce effluents of a high microbiological quality is a matter of great concern in terms of water resource pollution. A more serious concern is that this water source is used by communities in developing countries for multiple purposes, which include drinking, recreation and agriculture. The current study investigated the prevalence and potential h...

بررسی آلودگی های باکتریایی لوازم آرایشی مصرفی در اطراف چشم در قبل و پس از مصرف در ایران

Background: The possibility that cosmetic products may act as vehicles for pathogen transfer is a major health concern. The risk of this occurring is higher with cosmetics used around eyes, which could be responsible for a number of infectious diseases. This study was performed to evaluate the bacteriological quality of these products in Iran and also to study factors that predispose to bacteri...
